From puppy foundations to serious behavioural rehabilitation and personal-defense development, Safehouse K9 builds dogs that are safer, more capable, and more reliable in the real world.

Your dog should be an asset to your life, not a liability. Group obedience work makes this possible by building obedience and stability (i.e., neutrality to distracting environmental factors like other people and dogs). Because we specialise in raising high drive working dogs for family protection, we train obedience a bit differently than most. If you are struggling to build obedience in your dog, or you just want a strong bond and obedience that will stand up to the test of stress, our alternative obedience classes are for you. 

Spicy Dog Obedience: $200/month

For dogs who have made progress through Reactivity Rehab but still have that 5% unpredictability. We build obedience under pressure and keep moving forward — because progress doesn’t stop just because your dog isn’t perfect.

Steady State Obedience: $160/month

Stability is the foundation of capability. Steady State Obedience is designed for puppies just getting started and for dogs who demonstrate neutrality and are ready for a higher level of responsibility. We refine impulse control, distraction work, leash precision, and immediate responsiveness — building reliability that doesn’t crack under pressure.

Group sessions: $300 per 6 week block

Tailored specifically for dogs who struggle in this area, each dog gets a chance to practice being safe and calm in scenarios specific to their challenges. The controlled environment allows for exposure to triggers while also maintaining safe distances. 

Participation is open to dog-handler teams who have participated in individual sessions and have improved to the point of being safe for these classes.

Sessions run in 6-week groupings.

If your dog needs training beyond what can be achieved in a regularly offered session, we offer a home environment where such issues can be intensively addressed on a 24/7 basis. Challenges that we have effectively addressed in this setting include (but are not limited to) significant reactivity, aggression, and certain types of service dog training that the handler may not be physically or mentally equipped to handle. This allows the dog to see success which can then be transferred back to their relationship with you. At the end of the board & train, we spend anywhere from few hours up to a full day with you in order to ensure successful transition of the skills learned back to your home environment.  

Because board & trains are conducted in the home (i.e., not kenneled) and moving with me throughout the day, we only have capacity for one at a time and will prioritize cases that cannot be adequately addressed through our other training classes.

Raise your dog to defend your family in a life or death threat situation and also to be safe and stable around your home, family,  and friends. 

Personal defense dogs (sometimes called protection dogs) are NOT trained to "attack" but rather to defend their handler with reasonable and proportionate force if their handler is physically attacked. They are also different from law enforcement and sport protection dogs in that we train for real world scenarios (unlike sport protection) but we also spend just as much time teaching them when NOT to defend (unlike law enforcement). This ensures they remain calm and safe even when, for example, a relative smothers you in a boisterous bear hug when arriving from out of town.

Price: $450/month (weekly obedience and bite work classes)
